The National Heritage Life Insurance Company failure of the mid-1990s was reportedly the largest insurance company failure in U.S. history. The National Heritage case resulted in over $450 million in losses. Sixteen defendants were convicted of looting the company including Shaolom Weiss and Keith Pound, who received sentences of 845 years and 700 years respectively.
